Oktoberfest!

Oktoberfest starts this week at the PUB!

Are you dying for BIG strong/hoppy beers? see the end of the post for what’s going on tap!

Yep, we do it earlier than Deutsches Haus (no LeiderHosen or chicken dances either).
We try to keep to the German schedule as much as possible and theirs starts in mid Sept.

Wed. night tasting on the balcony (SmokeLESS until 11PM)

Schlenkerla Urbock ( rauchbier)
The prefix UR means original in German. The original Bock beer is an ancient German not Bavarian beer. This comes from a tavern in Bamberg. The brewery dates back to 1405. Smokey flavor is achieved by exposing the malt to the intense aromatic smoke of burning beechwood logs at the brewery. After mixing it with hops in the brew it matures in the cellars deep beneath the hills of Bamburg.

St Arnolds Octoberfest a full bodied, malty slightly sweet beer. made by those masters of low ABV session beers in Texas St Arnolds.

Banhnhof, Bayerischer White Wle (interpretation)
Yeasty earthy average sweetness with some lemon citrus flavors. Some latent tartness like a Gose but not as bold

Followed by Leipziger Gose (when Banhoff kicks)

Hellebock Saphir, Hofstetten

Lightly bready, malty and moderate amount of sweetness with a slightly honey quality. Hops are spicy and earthy with a dry finish.

Uerige Dopplstick Altbier
An altbier is a German top fermenting beer brewed in Dusseldorf and other parts of north Rhine-Westphalia. The name Alt beir means old beer and refers to the pre lager brewing method of using a warm top fermenting yeast. They lager is after fermentation which leads to a cleaner crisper beer than is the norm for other top fermented beers such as pale ales.

Granite Bock, Brauerei Hoffstetten Krammer St. Marin, Austria
Brewed according to the historic style ‘stone’ beer. It is a unique style that is brewed in large granite open troughs. The granite stones are heated to be white hot and added to the wort which caramelizes the wort. Gives the beers a lightly roasted, hints of smoke and caramel. Open fermented and matured for months in cellars under the brewery.
